Matchmaking: Finding the Right Fit
WAG matches
wonderful homes with animals to create lifelong bonds. We
have a 100% success rate for adoptions. We understand that
every home and every animal is unique. This the basis of the
matchmaking technique.
Our
Commitment
Our commitment to
WAG animals is to find them a lifelong home because these
animals have already been abandoned or given up at least
once.
Our commitment to
you is to find the right fit for your particular situation.

Going Through the Adoption Process
Wonderful homes
come in many forms. The steps below help WAG to learn what
is wonderful about you. Going through the process helps you
to learn more about which animal would be a perfect fit for
you.
|
Step 1 |
Make sure you are ready to meet the
lifelong needs of an animal. This includes
·
Planning for
expenses
·
Time for walks,
training, attention and play
·
Children are of an
appropriate age (see article on
Pets and
Children)
·
A Stable
Environment (consider the possibility of changes that can
happen in life such as moving, changing your work schedule,
starting a family, going back to school etc. )
|
|
Step 2.
|
Think about the characteristics you would like in a pet.
Energetic? Mellow? Playful? Goofy? Someone to keep you on
your toes? |
|
Step 3. |
Visit the shelter often and get to know the animals.
We encourage
all family members to visit the animals and make a decision
together. |
|
Step 4 |
When you
find one that you think is right for you, fill out an
adoption application for that animal.
You will
need:
·
your landlord's phone number (unless you own your home)
·
two non-personal references
·
your veterinarian's name and phone number (for current
and past pets) |
|
Step 5 |
Meet with
staff who will help you to ensure that it is the right
match. |
WAG staff are here
to help you through this process.
Out of Town?
If you do not live in the Whistler area but are interested
in a WAG animal, please call or email us. We can discuss the
suitability of the match over the phone or by email, and
complete the application process via email or fax, prior to
your visit to shelter. Adoptions may sometimes be completed
with a single visit to the WAG shelter.
